Cystitis & Bergamot essential oil

Bergamot essential oil is obtained from the rind of the Bergamot fruit, originally cultivated in Northern Italy.
The fruit looks like a miniture orange and has been used in Italy for hundreds of years.

Bergamot essential oil has a strong fresh citrus aroma and is uniquely valuable for urinary infections, depression, anxiety and skin care.  Bergamot oil is very helpful in treating cystitis and urethritis and prevent spreading if used early on.  Add a few drops (dilution 1%) to a local wash which will also relieve vaginal itching.
Although Chamomile and tea tree are both valuable for physical treatment, Bergamot will help break the reoccuring cycle of cystitis.

Treat Boils with essential oils

Hot compresses with essential oils can be used to "draw out" a boil and speed healing.  The most suitable essential oils are Lavender and Tea tree because of their antiseptic qualities, though Chamomile is useful too.
Firstly wash the area around the boil several times a day with 1%-3% dilution of Lavender and Tea tree.

Boils often appear when a persons resistance has been lowered by illness or stree and other essential oils and treatments might be needed.

Other useful esssential oils are Lemon, Bergamot, Lime and Rosemary

Treating blisters with Lavender essential oil.

To treat blisters that have occured due to rubbing shoes are best dealt with by covering a piece of gauze with a few drops of Lavender essential oil.  If the blister is large it may be more comfortable to puncture it with a sterilized needle and then apply neat lavender and a gauze covering.  Myrrh essential oil added in equal drops to the Lavender is useful if the blister remains damp.

Do not cover the blister with a plaster, apply the gause with plaster strips allowing air to the blister.

Evening primrose oil

The oil of Evening primrose (oenothera biennis) is often taken by form of a capsule but can also be applied to the skin.  It is often used to treat menstrual and pre menstrual problems, eczema and psoriasis.

Evening primrose contains high level of Gamma linolenic acid (GLA) an essential fatty acid, which the body needs to manafacture certain hormones.  Skin conditions often respond well to GLA rich oils which also  include Rosehip oil.

Aromtherapy and essential oils

Aromatherapy is an holistic treatment aiming to produce a physical, spiritual, emotional and mental state of well being through the use of essential oil, by means of inhalation and massage.

Essential oils are highly aromatic substances manufactured by plants and extracted by either one of the methods of distillation.  Essential oils are obtained from various parts of the plant and offer different therapeutic qualities, these may be used in various forms eg inhalation, hair care, vapourisers or massages. When applying essential oils they are first combined with a vegetable or carrier oil which is used to dilute the essential oils.

Each carrier oil and essential oils has its own qualities and benefits and blending these oils can help the user.
Quite often a blend can be more beneficial to one user more than another and so aromatherapy is often about finding what works for the user and not a case of "use this oil for this problem."

There are common essential oils which are very useful to start with: Lavender, Tea tree, Eucalyptus,  Rosemary, Geranium,

Calendula Oil is a golden coloured oil infused from marigold flowers. It has great healing, soothing and softening qualities which makes it a good choice to include when mixing a massage oil or blend.  Calendula on its own can be a little too thick.

Calendula oil is recommended when trying to reduce inflamed skin and itchy skin conditions.

It is also useful for nappy rash, burns, scars, eczema, cuts, skin irritations, vericose veins, cracked heels and chapped hands, as well as sore cracked nipples.

Grapeseed oil

Grapeseed oil (Vitis vinifera) is a carrier oil that has a fine texture and is almost odourless, light in texture and is easily absorbed by the skin.  Grapeseed is one of the cheapest base oils and most versitile and favoured by most aromatherapist and masseurs.

Grapeseed oil contains many vitamins and minerals including Vitamin E.  Vitamin E is one of the most powerful natural antioxidants helping to combat the emergence of free radicals and other damaging elements in the skin.   These elements combined make grapeseed oil an excellent oil for moisturising and protecting normal to dry skin leaving it soft without feeling greasy.

Grapeseed oil is a good base oil for aromatherapy blends as it is suitable for all skin types and can be used alone or mixed with any other base oil.

Grapeseed oil can be used on all skin types but particularly good for oily skin. Its not too 'sticky' and is easily and readily absorbed by the skin.  Use grapeseed oil alone or with essential oils.

Which reed diffusers fragrance shall I choose?

We offer lots of different fragrances, fruity, floral, spicy, warm, summer etc etc.  As we approach the seasonal time of the year "warmer" aromas become more popular.  Cinnamon & Orange,  & Sandalwood for example.

Our most popular fragrance by far is coconut and vanilla which is sweet tropical fragrance but if that isn't to your liking how about Freesia or Jasmine for their fresh floral aromas?

What ever your tastes our reed diffuser refills are only £3.99 for 100ml. Or how about a few reed diffuser testers 30ml for only £1.75 each.

Don't forget your replacement rattan sticks!

How to get the best from your Reed diffusers?

Reed diffusers consist of oil and rattan sticks.  The reed diffuser oil is generally made up of fragrance oils, Dipropylene glycol methyl ether(DPM) or Dipropylene glycol (DPG) with perfumers alcohol and is made to the right consistancy to allow the oil to travel up the rattan sticks and then allow the vapours to circulate around the room.

Firstly place the rattan sticks into the diffuser oil and allow 24-48hours, depending on the length of the rattan sticks, for the oil to soak up the reeds.  30ml of reed diffuser oil will last a good 6 weeks if not longer.  You can turn the sticks over in the oil fto refresh but remember this may cause the oil to drip and the diffuser oil can damage polished and painted surfaces.

The main mistake people make with reed diffusers is not placing them in the correct area to get the best from them, a complaint I often get is "I can not smell it."  Firstly reed diffusers are all different, some more powerful than others and secondly it is the air wafting over the sticks which carries the fragrance, so where is it situated? Low down on the fireplace, in a corner, behind a picture frame? If so,  then it is unlikely that the air circulates in those areas and indeed you will not get the benefit of your reed diffuser.

Try and place it at chest or above height, in a main area of the room and in the summer time by an open window for the best results.

If you are looking for reed diffuser refills and replacement rattan sticks there are lots of fragrances to choose from.  100ml Reed diffuser oil for £3.99 and a bundle of 20 long rattan sticks for £2.25.

Jojoba oil prices increase.

Over the past 12 months or so we have noticed the price of Jojoba oil sky rocket.  Prices have not only just doubled per litre but infact tripled over the last few months.  Now we are having to move from supplier to supplier each month just to even source Jojoba oil and hope that there will not be a time where we have exhausted all resources.

Why is there a shortage? Well we are not sure is the honest reply, on enquiries with suppliers we are told that there seems to be a world wide shortage, why and for how long is anyones guess.  The good thing about Jojoba oil though is that it has a long shelf life, so if you do purchase any, while you can, you know it will keep for some time.  Store out of sunlight and high temperatures and it will keep for 2-3 years.  Remember if it solidifies bring back into room temperature.

We have tried to keep our prices low but unfortunately we have had no choice but to increase again to £4.99 per 100ml this month.

NEW IN - Rosehip oil

This month we have added a new carrier oil - Rosehip seed oil.

Rosehip is an easily absorbed oil and so  penetrates easily into the skin without leaving it greasy.

Rosehip seed oil contains Vitamin A, a high amount of essential fatty acids and Vitamin E, which helps to delay the effects of skin ageing, assists with cell regeneration, and promotes collagen and elastin levels to increase, resulting in firmer, smoother, and more youthful skin with greater elasticity.   Apply it directly onto the skin or add essential oils.

Rosehip seed oil has been used successfully to treat the following skin problems:

    * Stretch marks
    * UV damage from overexposure to the sun
    * Scars from surgery, burns, and acne
    * Eczema
    * Psoriasis
    * Wrinkles and premature skin aging
    * Hyper-pigmentation
    * Dermatitis
    * Burns and sunburns
    * Age spots
    * Brittle nails
    * Dry and damaged hair

Why not mix it with a little Jojoba oil or Wheatgerm oil for extra nourishment for the skin.

Are testers available?

Quite often we are asked if there are testers available as we only offered our shaving oils, massage oils and fragranced massage oils in 100ml & 250ml sized bottles.

Well, as of recently we sourced some smaller bottles 30ml in order to do just that.  So you can now purchase holiday/travel/tester sized oils from us.

We offer:
Shaving oil testers
Essential oil massage blends
Fragrance oil massage blends

Why use shaving oils over soap or gel?

So why use shaving oils over soap or gels?

Well the main answer is that continous shaving with soaps and gels can dry your skin out.  As a woman I find my legs are dry and flaky after using soap or shower gel .

Yes, I could add a moisturiser but then again its one more thing to do and sometimes adding cream onto the newly shaven area can leave a rash. I started using shaving oil some time ago and realised that once I had shaved my legs my skin was smooth and soft.

 As we offer shaving oils for all skin types these are made with Sweet almond oil and Jojoba oil for suppleness Essential oils are selected depending on skin type but of course these can be used by men and women. Our shaving oil for dry skin is Sandalwood shaving oil. If you have oily skin try Cedarwood shaving oil or a more feminine citrus blend for women of Citrus Zing shaving oil.  For normal skin we have Peppermint fresh shaving oil which is a refreshing clean aroma.

If you are wishing to use a shaving oil for a hollywood or bikini shave then the Soothing Lavender shaving oil  is ideal.

To use a shaving oil just rinse the area with warm water and rub in a few drops of shaving oil until the area is lubricated and then shave as normal (not using an electric razor but blades) Once the area has been shaved rinse again with warm water and you are done.  Do not wash afterwards with soap or shower gel as you will then not benefit from the oils benefits.

Testers are also available
